Determine your moving date and set it so you don't forget it! Make sure you allow yourself enough time for packing and organizing (hint: it takes more time than you think).

Calculate expenses for a truck rental, moving supplies, packing materials, and moving labor services. We recommend UHaul for your truck, and Caddy for your moving labor.

Reserve a moving truck well in advance, as some rental truck locations may reach capacity during peak moving times. Book Caddy for professional loading and unloading assistance.

Go through each room and decide what to keep, donate, or sell. Places like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are great resources for getting rid of unwanted items.

It's a good idea to take a list of valuable or fragile items for extra care. Have plenty of sharpies ready to go so you can mark your boxes with "fragile" as needed.

Make sure to obtain boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and sharpies for labeling. We recommend getting more than what you think you need, as excess items can be stored easily.

Start packing items that you use less frequently. We recommend clearly labeling each box with its contents and destination room for your new home.

Using bubble wrap and padding for delicate items is a great practice to minimize cracks and scratches. Clearly mark fragile boxes so you know what needs extra special attention when loading and unloading!

Your essentials box will include items you'll need immediately after the move. This will include things like toiletries, clothes, and important documents. Thank us later!

If you have the tools, get ahead by taking apart large furniture pieces for easier transport. Make sure to keep screws and parts in labeled bags so you don't lose those precious pieces.

Ensure hallways and doorways are unobstructed: do this by removing any furniture that may be blocking walkways or artwork that can get knocked.

Use padding or blankets to prevent damage during your move. This is especially important around drywall corners that have sharp turns.

We recommend UHaul or Penske truck. Be sure to inspect the truck for any damages before signing the rental agreement. Speak with a Caddy representative if you need help determining the best truck size.

*If you hire Caddy, we'll be handling this part!* Make sure to load heavier items first and distribute weight evenly. Mattresses and flat items should go against the walls. Secure all items with straps or ropes.

Check each room, closet, and cabinet to ensure nothing is left behind. Say goodbye to your neighbors!

Direct your movers from Caddy to place boxes and items in the correct rooms. If you labeled everything, this will go a lot smoother. Make sure to unpack your essentials box first

Set up essential furniture pieces in each room so you have somewhere to rest your feet after this move! Ask your Caddy team to reassemble any furniture, if desired.

Inspect all items for any damages during the move and be sure to report it to your Caddy team, if appropriate.

Give your new space a thorough cleaning before settling in. Taking a damp wash cloth with cleaning solution to new surfaces is a great practice.

Notify banks, insurance, and subscriptions of your new address.. Especially Amazon, for some new house warming items!
